John Chown
John Chown, founder chairman of JF Chown & Company and now a principal in Chown Dewhurst LLP, was educated at Gordonstoun and Selwyn College, Cambridge (First class honours economics, Adam Smith Prize and Wrenbury Scholarship) and is an Honorary Fellow of the College.
John draws on his years of experience and strengths at diagnosing client problems and always works with younger colleagues. Binne Vries shares his interest and knowledge in financial market taxation and is now a close colleague. He continues to be interested in bringing on young people. Given his first love as an economist and experience with financial markets, John is following the broader implications of the present crisis very closely.
He has been actively involved in public policy issues in the UK, the CIS the EC and elsewhere, and now devotes about half his professional time to international policy advice. He is an active member of International Financial Services London www.ifsl.org.uk serving on their CIS, CEE and pensions committees and taking part in many outward missions and inward visits by ministers and others. He is co-founder and Executive Committee member of the Institute for Fiscal Studies www.ifs.org.uk and has served on the Taxation and Economic Committee of the Institute of Directors, is a Fellow of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, (former member of their Taxation and Technical Committee) and was for many years on the London Committee of the International Fiscal Association.
